Recent Classes – Brisbane, Jakarta and High School!
Recently in June, I got to teach in Brisbane for the very first time. I’d been getting lots of requests and emails about teaching up north so I got a friend (Anna) on board and we hosted this together. Interestingly enough, Anna was one of my very, very first cupcake students (back when I was only teaching cupcake classes). We have since become friends even though she moved to Brisbane a couple of years ago. Thank you Anna for lending us your place for the classes and of course to all the students who not only asked and asked, but also actually turned up to class 🙂 It was a pleasure meeting and teaching all of you. I hope to be back there soon sometime in early 2015!
I flew back to Sydney that night after the Brisbane Milk Jug class and immediately had to unpack and pack again for my Jakarta trip the next morning. Yikes. Which genius booked these flights?! um… that would be me.
Pretty sunset in Jakarta 🙂 If I catch it, this time of the day is always a little sad for me because it signifies that another day that you will never get back is gone. And I may or may not have accomplished what I wanted to do that day.
I even had time to do a little experimenting while I was in Jakarta, thanks to Heavenly Sweet for being so generous with their studio space 🙂
This little guy was made out of 2 x 4in round cakes… working on something new here 🙂
Finally, last month I got the wonderful opportunity of teaching a local group of high school kids how to decorate cupcakes for their food tech class. The class consists of mostly girls and two boys, all around 16 years old. They did so good too! I am so impressed by their enthusiasm, creativity and quick learning abilities. Those couple of hours I spent with them really brought me back to the beginning and reminded me why I love teaching. There is just something magical about teaching younger students who don’t have any ‘fear’ 🙂
What’s next? I’ve got international royal icing expert Kelvin Chua visiting Sydney in September (to view his classes click here) and then I am off to KL, Malaysia to teach with Buns in the Oven Cupcakery 🙂
