A Week in My Life

I often wonder where my week has gone as I sit in front of the TV on a Sunday night watching Master Chef… do you guys ever wonder what I get up to? Here’s a little sneak peak… my last week in summary πŸ™‚
Monday – The day is spent at work and I pick up fresh ingredients (butter, cream, eggs) I need for my cakes during my lunch break. At night I prepare the decorations for the weekend cakes. This week it’s an all out bling sign for Suren’s birthday and some fashion inspired cupcake toppers.

Tuesday – Another day at work. Caught up with a friend for dinner tonight while the boyfriend started on some of the baking – a red velvet cake (yum!). Get home and continued to finish off the cupcake toppers. Made the lemon ganache for the cakes as they need to rest overnight.

Wednesday – Work again during the day and baked the cupcakes for Friday’s order when I get home. Started ganaching Suran’s birthday cake and headed over to Lilia’s (My Sweethearts Bakery) place to borrow some supplies (thank you!) and have a good ol’ chat πŸ™‚ Us cake designers tend to get carried away with cake talk when we catch up.
Thursday – Do I need to mention I spent the day at work? Rushed off to Volleyball after work and started on the cupcakes when I got home. Luckily most of the 3D designs are already done so I just had to finish off the overall design. The boyfriend also started baking Aaliyah’s cake for Sunday.
Friday – Work again! Friday night is the night when everything all comes together. The cupcakes get picked up and Suran’s cake gets covered and painted in a vibrant orange and red. And then it gets covered again and the contemporary circle patterns get cut out.

I’m not usually a fan of orange but I loved how the bright colours of this cake just seem to shine through the white blanket. And the bling sign… oh, I was nervous about it staying up right, but it all worked out in the end πŸ™‚
Saturday – Suren’s cake gets delivered and then it was time for a consultation. The lovely lady wanted to order a cake for her daughters birthday. I’m so excited about the design idea!Β
In the afternoon Helena and Danielle came for the beginners cupcake decorating workshop.

This is the first time I ran one with a structured design and the ladies did so well! I was so impressed by what they achieved and so were they.

At night, went to my friend’s place and to pick up some of her clothes (she’s moving and needed somewhere to store them). Treated myself to some San Churros (yummy, crunchy doughnut sticks dipped in milk chocolate…. mmmm) and picked up dinner.
Got home and started (and finished) Aaliyah’s cake. I love playing with my airbrush πŸ™‚
Sunday – Aaliyah’s cake gets delivered and got some attention from all the littl
e kids as we walked through Lunar Park. It’s so exciting to see the shocked faces and hear all the kids chatter ‘wow is that a cake?!’.

I’m not a fan of plastic figurines on cakes but it’s what Aaliyah wanted, she even bought them and posted them to me πŸ™‚ But surprisingly I really liked this cake (the boyfriend also declared it one of his favourites!), the figurines and colours all worked out really well.
Then it’s home time and time to wrap up the week… replying to emails and working out next week’s schedule! Oh, and watching Masterchef πŸ™‚

  1. I love the circle pattern on the “bling” cake. Did you cut the shapes out once the white icing was on the cake, or before you covered it?

  2. Now breathe….

What a week! I don’t know how you do it. It’s nice of your boyfriend to help out with the baking. So some boys can help out after all. I shouldn’t complain, mine is pretty good. His older brother is quite hopeless though..

The cakes look marvelous as always, well done! I think you should treat yourself with ZUMBO! πŸ™‚

  3. WOW!
Sharon Wee, that cake for Aaliyah is so amazing, definitely one of the most instantly impressive ones and a visual spectacular. I think it’s the colours.

Nice display of colours on all of these ones yay.

Your week is too busy though, puts our sleepy household to shame!

  4. awesome suren cake. how did you manage to get the words to stay upright? i’ve been looking at the photo and i can’t work out how all the letters are connected.

  5. Thanks Jennifer! Suren’s cake was one of my favourites πŸ™‚

Faithy, yes I am very very lucky to have a boyfiend who can bake for me πŸ˜€

Mish – The patterns were cut out after the icing was placed on the cake, it would have been impossible to do it the other way! πŸ˜‰

Phuoc – It was a bit of a madhouse week! And I did go to Zumbo yesterday to get the blackened vanilla macaron you recommended, but they were sold out πŸ™

Jeremy – Thank you! I love how all the colours work so well together πŸ™‚

Judy – the letters are glued together with cake decorating glue. I had to wait until everything was fully dry before even trying to put it on the cake… Hence why I had to make it a whole week before.
